We will be spending some time as a class, and individually, experimenting with and reflecting upon various aspects of communication. Communicating well with others is a 'soft skill' that is necessary in any relationship, whether it be with friends, family, customers, or co-workers. The Core Competency of Communication is defined in our curriculum as: the knowledge, skills, processes and dispositions we associate with interactions with others. Through their communication, students acquire, develop and transform ideas and information, and make connections with others to share their ideas, express their individuality, further their learning, and get things done. The communication competency is fundamental to finding satisfaction, purpose and joy. You are asked to respond thoughtfully to the following 5 questions for next class:
1) What do you acknowledge are your strengths when it comes to communication? 2) What challenges you when you communicate with others? 3) What characteristics do you notice/appreciate in others when they communicate with you? 4) What characteristics do you notice/not appreciate in others when they communicate with you? 5) What is your relationship like with technology and communication? Does it help or hinder you? How so? Each week you will be expected to document your progress, planning, success, challenges, set-backs, etc. related to your Capstone. You are asked to do this by posting entries under your "Blog Journal" tab on your website. I've attached a sheet for your reference, to guide you through the process. This week we've had fantastic presentations from our counselling staff outlining the basic requirements and the process for applying to post-secondary schools in British Columbia. In addition, you had the opportunity to attend an information session on a BC post-secondary school of your choosing. The following website is in place for you to learn more about, and apply to, any and all British Columbian post-secondary schools. The link below will assist you significantly in the process!
Education Planner BC - educationplannerbc.ca As part of your graduation requirements, you are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the six core competencies outlined by the Ministry of Education. Your 'Capstone Draft Proposal' invites you to make connections to the core competencies as they relate to your Capstone project. The Core Competencies are listed and defined below for your reference. Complete the following "All About Me" assignment in great detail. Be thoughtful, reflective, and honest. Be forthcoming, proud, thorough. This exercise will be significantly helpful in the process of preparing an updated resume. |
